The integrated microphone is a nice feature.Do not purchase, however, if you are planning on using this webcam with Linux since there is no support for this particular webcam. I am using Ubuntu 8.10 (kernel 2.6.27). This is a decent webcam for Windows. There are lists online to help you find a supported webcam.
I think it is a great camera for the price. My only complaint is that the documentation for accessing the camera controls does not match well with the software provided. I have not even used its built in microphone. Since then, however, it has operated well for my purpose. I wanted a webcam for use with Skype and settled on this one. I have only used it in the webcam mode, and have no opinion on its versatility or use for any other application. I had to hunt around to find the proper menus and screens to get things started up.
It has high video resolution and a nice led light that works well. Its great. Do not look any further than this, buy this camera. I recommend this camera to anybody looking for one. I have a hp computer to and never had problems.
There is a nice crisp picture and you dont have to have a lot of light for a good picture. This camera is small so its easy to carry around. The microphone works good too. That one reviewer doesnt know what hes talking about saying it doesnt have a good picture. This Camera is great.
I only paid five dollars and its the best five dollars I ever spent. HP makes great products.
Otherwise, excellent product. Only problem for me is that my desk has an overhang and when my laptop is sitting in the docking station, the camera will not fit on the top of the laptop lip. The automatic focus, sharp/crisp picture, and large viewing area are great, and it comes with a handy padded cloth carrying case. But that's my problem due to my cramped space. This HP Webcam is very good. It's got an easy plug 'n play interface. It does not have the capability to be mounted on the side with an adjustment to "flip" the picture.
If I moved too quickly, or tried to make hand gestures, it was just a blur. I am much happier with the Logitech WebCam. As a result, my image was often out of focus as I changed whether I was leaning in, leaning back, or walking around.Overall, this is a very basic webcam. The camera clips securely to my laptop screen and easily adjusted up down, left or right on the swivel mount. Poor image quality.
I plugged the camera into my notebook PC and it worked right away. However, the image was not very clear, and was washed out if there was too much light. Manual focus is available, but I noticed that once I set the focus, I rarely adjusted it. I do not recommend purchasing this one unless you are only interested in the lowest priced webcam, but have no interest in quality.In the end, I replaced my HP Webcam with a Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks. I purchased the HP 1.3M Webcam to chat with my family via Skype.
Very nice feature. It will get the job done, but it will not impress.
